Professional Bio

Dariane McLean has been involved in disability advocacy for many years. She is the mother of a 45-year-old autistic man with an intellectual disability who has high support needs. In her role as a Specialist Advisor at Inclusion Australia Dariane works on family networking and policy development. She has been invited to participate on many advisory groups including on issues such as autism and intellectually disability, positive behaviour support, NDIA Independent Expert Review model, and was a special witness at the Disability Royal Commission. She also facilitates a services for one national community of practice of families who are committed to the same model. Dariane has also held a role on the VALID advocacy team for 16 years where she has provided individual and systemic advocacy for people with an intellectual disability with high level complex support needs. She facilitates a VALID peer action group of families who support someone who has a history of behaviours of concern to provide a safe environment for them to receive support, peer connection and information.
