Professional Bio

Dr Sue Silveira, NextSense Institute and Macquarie School of Education Studies, Faculty of Arts, Macquarie University Sue’s initial qualification is in paediatric Orthoptics and has worked extensively in the NSW public hospital system and in vision screening programs. Sue previously held an academic position with the University of Sydney, in the School of Orthoptics. Sue currently holds a conjoint academic position with Macquarie University and is the Course Director for the Master of Disability Studies. Sue teaches in the areas of vision impairment and disability. Sue is also a research fellow with the NextSense Institute. She is the chief investigator on the project which has established the Australian Childhood Vision Impairment Register, a co-investigator on a project related to braille, and a co-investigator on a project developing playgrounds that are accessible for children with vision impairment.
